What’s Probably Coming?

 Happy Friday and welcome December!

Are you aware of what is going on in the biggest school district In the country?  Here are the facts from a recent article from The Guardian.

"New York City’s public schools will begin to reopen for in-person learning on December 7th, starting with elementary schools for students whose parents agree to a weekly testing regimen for the coronavirus, Mayor Bill de Blasio announced on Sunday. The schools were closed less than two weeks ago after the citywide rate of coronavirus tests coming back positive exceeded a 3% benchmark agreed to by the mayor and teachers’ union. It’s a new approach because we have so much proof now of how safe schools can be, De Blasio told reporters on Sunday, adding the 3% benchmark was being scrapped and pointing to research that shows young children appear to be less vulnerable to Covid-19."

What does this mean for us? I’m thinking that we could get back into school sooner than we think. While New York has one of the lowest positive rates in the country, more and more is being said about low transmission rates in the elementary schools that are open. I know I’m better able to process all of this if I have a little time to reflect. Lots of mixed emotions about all of it, right?  I hear many of you talk about how difficult the hybrid scene will be - monitoring and guiding the kids who are in the classroom and still being responsible for the remote kids.

We haven’t received any official notice about what is ahead.  But my guess is that we will be adjusting to some hybrid situation.  I know we are anxious about that reality. So much will be expected of all of us.  And, it seems to me not nearly enough affirmation about what we will need to pull this off.  I want headlines  to read “Let’s not forget the sacrifices and dogged effort of these essential workers - educators."  “Teachers, school personnel we need you - our kids desperately need you!”  “Washington D.C., Springfield, Berwyn we educators are essential workers - very essential”.

Just want you to start processing all of this as well.
